The Chores and The Work

I trust we all know the difference between the chores and the work of God. Chores are work, but they are not the work. The chores are doing what needs to be done around the house of God, while the work is doing what needs to be done in the fields of the world around the house of God. Chores are important, but they are not as important as the work. However, if there is not enough help with the chores, they take up all the time from the work that needs to be done in the fields. That is why David appointed the Levites to help the priests with the service of the house of the Lord.(I Chronicles 23:27,28) The Levites did the chores, so that the priests could do the work of bringing people to God. Today in the church we still have the chores and the work, so the same principle applies. Let me explain.

In order to have a church of any size or shape, there are chores that must be done regularly. Then, if the church meets in a building, the chores multiply. If the church has a campus with grass and parking lots, the chores multiply. If the church operates vehicles for their ministry, the chores increase. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Each church usually has a pastor and maybe some other paid staff to do the work of the ministry. God's plan is for every member of the church to help the pastor and staff with the chores, so they can be done easily and well, and there can be time for everyone to be involved in the work. That is the difference between the temple worship and the church. Now, every Christian is a priest, so we are all to do the work of bringing people to Christ. However, in many churches it is said that 20% of the members do 80% of chores and the work. That means some are very overloaded, and often very little of the work gets done, because all the 20% have time to do is the chores. When that happens the church ceases to be what God designed the church to be. The church is God's army of missionaries equipped and sent out to reach the world around them for the Lord.

Therefore, I would ask you, "What chores do you help with at your church?" Then, I would ask another question, "How much work in the fields are you doing?" If all of us help with the chores, a lot more people will be brought to the Lord. That will please God very much.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 25-27.
