Managing God's Money

As we learned yesterday, the Levites did the work around the house of God, except for the ministry of the priests. Ahijah was appointed to oversee the treasuries of the house of God.(I Chronicles 26:20) This was a huge responsibility. Just consider the seriousness of misusing God's money or neglecting to care for the things dedicated to the Lord. He could either get a great reward or a severe punishment because of how he managed God's money.

This is true today in the church. Every dime given to the church is God's money, and it is up to us to manage it all well. Our church is blessed with godly people who take this very seriously, and I am so thankful for them. I know we all want God to bless our church because He sees how faithful we are to use His money according to His will and not to squander any of it.

However, this truth applies to us as individual believers and families, as well. Every dime we earn belongs to God. He has given it to us to manage for His glory and His kingdom. All of our tithes are His, and we give them back to Him, dedicated to His service. Therefore, we are just like Ahijah. We will be judged on how we manage God's money, too. I pray that we all will be faithful stewards or managers of God's money.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 28-29 and II Chronicles 1.
