A Glory Filled Temple

Solomon built the temple in which God would dwell, and the people would worship Him. Then, He prayed a prayer of dedication, asking God to hear the prayers offered in the temple. Finally, when he finished his prayer, God answered in a dramatic way. Fire came down from heaven to burn up the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple in such a way that the priests could not stay there to offer more sacrifices.(II Chronicles 7:1) Le't consider what happened then and what could happen now.

God was pleased with the house Solomon had built for Him, and He was pleased with his prayer because it showed a true dependence on God. Then, the glory of God, which is His presence, came down to fill the temple as a thick cloud. There was no doubt that God was in control of the temple. It was a show of His pleasure and His power that was amazing for all to see. I am sure it caused the people to know God was real, and they needed to trust Him completely.

Where is the temple of God today? It is the body of everyone who knows Christ.(I Corinthians 6:19) God desires to do the same thing to our temples. He loves to see our pure worship of Him, and He wants to fill us with His Spirit, so that every part of us is under His control. Then, others will see the Lord in us and be drawn to Him, because of the glory of the Lord in our lives. For this to happen we must pray a sincere prayer of our dependence on God every day, so that our lives are dedicated to do His will in all things.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 9-12.
