Fasting to Overcome Fear

Jehoshaphat had the fear of man. A great army came against Judah, and he did not know what to do, because of that fear. However, he did the right thing next. He set himself to seek the Lord, and he called on all of the people of Judah to seek the Lord by entering a fasting time.(II Chronicles 20:3) We need to learn from King Jehoshaphat.

Everyone has fears, anxiety, and doubts at times, even if they are believers. We must not dismiss those feelings, but we must seek the Lord to show us the answer. Fasting from eating food sharpens our ability to hear from God, and it shows Him how important it is for us to hear from Him. When we are serious about hearing from God, He answers us. He showed Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah that they did not need to fear, because He would fight for them. They trusted God, and put the choir in front of the army. God routed the enemies, and Judah was saved. The same can happen for us, if we are serious about seeking God with fasting.

I have asked our church family to prepare for Pentecost this year with seeking the Lord and fasting. I pray that we are dong that as a church, because we need God's direction and power. I am confident that God will show us the way, but we have to be serious about seeking Him. Then, we must be committed to do what He says.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 22-24.
