Appearing Before the Lord

God told Moses to command the people of Israel to appear before Him three times a year. Then, every seven years when they appeared before Him during the Feast of Tabernacles in the Promised Land, Moses commanded them to read all of the law to the people.(Deuteronomy 31:10,11) I believe we need to think about these two points this morning.

We need regular times when we appear before the Lord. We may call them revivals or something else, but we need times of reflection and surrender to the Lord. I know many of us go to worship on Sunday, and that is very good. However, I am speaking of something much more specific. We need to appear before the Lord and ask Him to show us our sins and His will, so we can repent and obey. It is like a preparation time for the Judgment that keeps us from straying from the Lord, so we will be ready to meet Him personally.

We all need to hear the commands of God, the Word of God, regularly, too. That is why I urge everyone to read through their Bible every year. However, whether it is every year or every seven years, we need to hear the whole counsel of God and consider His commands and promises, so we can stay on His path. Many times we avoid His Word, when we get away from Him, because it shows us our sins. It is a grave mistake to neglect God's Word.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 32-34.
