The Insights of Unbelievers
I am constantly amazed by how much unbelievers know about Christianity. It seems to me that it is proof that God is dealing with them to draw them to salvation. In Jeremiah's case it was the captain of the guard, Nebuzaradan, who showed insights into the destruction of Jerusalem by his people, the Babylonians.(Jeremiah 40:2,3) I think this is instructive for us as believers in several ways.
Please, remember the role of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.(John 16:8-11) Of course, His role in the Old Testament was on a more limited scale, but He was still revealing the Lord to all people, not just believers. Therefore, we can know that when we witness to another person, we are not the first person to show them the truth. The Lord has already shown Himself to them, and He has given them insights into sin, righteousness, and judgment. This should give us more boldness in our witness.
Also, it should be a warning to us to live righteous lives, because non-believers will spot our hypocrisy every time. We might think we can get away with sin, but that is not the case. That is why so many people are turned off by what they see Christians say and do. They know better, because even though they don't trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they know what is right and wrong.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 42-44.
