The Anger of the Lord
God's anger is righteous and perfect. When He gets angry at sin, He always does the right thing in the right way.(Jeremiah 52:3) However, when we get angry, we are often angry for the wrong reasons, and we do the wrong thing, even when we are angry at the right things, so the Lord tells us to put away all anger.(Ephesians 4:31) This is a major difference between us and God.
God has a perfect understanding of truth and righteousness. Therefore, when His anger rises, He is just in His punishment of us as sinners. He always acts in love, even when He is angry, because He is love. He is merciful and gracious because of His love. Then, when He acts, it is just the right thing at just the right time. His anger produces good results.
We do not have a perfect understanding of truth, righteousness, and other people, so we usually express our angry in the wrong way. Our anger does not lead to the right results.(James 1:20) It does not bring about God's will. That is why the Lord tells us to put away all anger. Let God do what needs to be done. We need to seek to follow His will and be an expression of His love and mercy.
This does not mean that we compromise on God's Word. It means there is always a way to live right without acting in anger. That is what we should seek to do. Also, when we see that God is angry about something, we should repent of it, and do the right thing, because when God expresses His righteous anger, there are serious consequences for everyone involved.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Lamentations 1-3.
