Keeping God in the Middle

How do you keep God in the center of your life? I believe we must be very intentional about keeping Him in the center of all we are and all we do, or else, He will just be something on the fringe of our lives. God had a great way to drive home this point with the Israelites as the were on the way to the Promised land. The tabernacle was always in the middle when they camped and when they journeyed.(Numbers 2:17) In the morning when they came out of the tent the Lord's Presence in the cloud was in front of them. At night when they went into the tent for bed the last thing they saw was the fire above the tabernacle.

If you put everything together that we have read so far from Genesis to Numbers, you can see how God intentionally designed everything, so that He had to be in the middle of their lives. The weekly schedule had daily sacrifices and weekly Sabbaths. Then, all year long there was one feast and Holy Day after another. God was not allowed to be on the fringe. However, even with all of that the hearts of the people tended to drift away from God. That shows us the challenge.

How is your schedule arranged to keep God in the middle? How is your home outfitted to keep God at the center of your attention? I am not going to answer those questions for you, except to say that we should begin and end our days with the Lord, and we should pray without ceasing all day long. We should make sure that everywhere we look in our homes we see God's Word and things that remind us of Him. Then, we must apply our hearts not to drift away from Him, but to follow hard after Him every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 5-7.
