Helping People

Too often we are stingy. God is generous, and He wants us to be generous to those around us who have needs. It is clear from God's Word that God loves everyone, and He desires for us to love everyone around us, no matter if they are like us or not.(Leviticus 25:35,36) In fact, God's desire is for us not to make a distinction between our "brothers" and others. We are to love them and help them in the same way.

One of the main things that God says is that we should not profit from helping poor people. We are to "fear God." Since God cares for them, if we do not have a heart of compassion and help them, we are in danger of His anger being poured out on us. If we just try to enrich ourselves by helping them, He can take away anything we might have made and more.

Let's strive to have this type of love for strangers and those who are only with us temporarily, as well as for those of our own family and friends. God is not a respecter of persons. He looks at the heart of each person. Even though we can't see a person's heart, we can equally love each person with discernment and grace. I think that would put a smile on God's face today and every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 26-27 and Numbers 1.
