Turning A Deaf Ear

How sad it is when God speaks, but people will not listen! That is the story of the book of Judges. He sent judges to deliver the Israelites, but they would not listen.(Judges 2:17) They turned a deaf ear to God, because they did not want to hear Him.

I am convinced that God is speaking to everyone in the world all of the time.(John 1:9; Romans 1:18-21) He loves every person. He wants to have a personal relationship with each of us. The barrier to hearing from God lies within us. It is not God's fault. We want to go our own way. We want to be free from laws and rules. We desire to experience the pleasures of sin, so our hearts get harder and harder to God. We think life without Him will be so much better than what He is saying to us.

I hope you will read the book of Judges and see what happened to Israel. It is the darkest book of the Bible in my opinion. Yes, there are great stories of deliverance that we cherish, but each time the people go back to idols, and they get more and more sinful. We do well to heed this warning from God's Word about the effects of turning a deaf ear to God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 3-5.
