A Formula For Victory

If you have been reading through the Bible with us this year, I want to ask you a question. Have you noticed what happened each time the children of Israel won a victory? Also, have you have noticed what happened when they were defeated? I know there could be several answers, but let me give you the main one. The leaders led, and the people willingly followed.(Judges 5:2,3)

Now, I realize there are some important elements that must be clarified about that formula. It was godly leadership in which the leaders followed God's will, as they heard from Him. Also, the people were willing to follow because they sensed the leadership of the Lord in what the human leaders said. When this happens, great victories are possible.

When we fail to be victorious, it is often due to a lack of godly leadership that is expressed in an encouraging way. Also, when the people rebel against the godly leadership, there is defeat. We see this over and over in Exodus and Numbers, especially in the account of the 12 spies going into Canaan and 10 bringing a bad report.

We need to keep this formula for victory in mind for our families, our churches, our communities, and our nation. We will never see victory without this unity of mind and purpose from God, through the leaders, to the people.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 6-8.
