Consider it, Confer, and Speak Up!

During the times of the Judges, things in Israel were as bad as they had ever been, since God brought them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.(Judges 19:30) I believe many people in America would say the same thing about the state of our country today. It is not just time to wring our hands. We need to do the right thing to bring us back to where we ought to be. If we do the wrong thing, it will only make it worse. That is why the book of Judges says, "Consider it, confer, and speak up."

We need to consider the situation in our country and especially among God's people in the USA. We need to look at every aspect of our lives. We do not need to sugarcoat it when we discuss it. It will only be when we are totally honest with ourselves and with God that we will be able to take the steps to get out of this mess.

We need to confer. Yes, we need to talk with each other and not "at" each other. However, democracy is not the answer. We need to come to a place of unity in seeking God. We need to pour out our hearts to Him and confer with God. His solution is the only solution. Once a people gets so far from God, it is impossible to see the way back by ourselves. We must submit to His way.

Finally, we need to speak up. If the average believers would rise up and speak the truth to our churches and our neighbors, it would make a huge difference. It does not take a rocket scientist to see the truth. It only takes some time with the Lord and His Word. We need to speak up with His truth to a lost nation, speaking the truth in love.

When I read the end of Judges, it brings tears to my eyes to see what God's people did. Even the Levites were so corrupt. However, we are not far from the same place in America. It is time to return to the Lord before it gets any worse.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 20-21 and Ruth 1.
