To Whom Do You Belong?

Do you look at yourself as an independent person who is free from ownership of any other person? Do you see yourself as a free person or a type of slave? I believe this is an important question for each of us in light of what the Bible says. What do you think?

It is my opinion that most Americans pride themselves in being free, independent people who do not really answer to anyone else. At times, we say that we belong to our spouse, but that means we are joined by marriage, and we are faithful to our spouse. It doesn't usually mean that we are owned by our mate. Do you see what I mean? We think we are free to do whatever we want to do, within certain limits, but we basically belong to ourselves.

The Bible says that believers belong to God.(Acts 27:23,24) We have been bought by the blood of Jesus. We are bond slaves to Jesus, even though we are friends, as well. We would be nothing without Him, so when we come to know Christ, we give ourselves to Him. He made us. He gave us eternal life. He lives in us. We belong to Him. That knowledge totally changes how we think. We don't tell God what we are going to do. We ask Him what He wants us to do. We serve Him, because we owe Him our lives.

It is wonderful to have the security of knowing that we are in His hands. (John 10:28,29) He is preparing a place in heaven for us. We are His children and the sheep of His pasture. He will cherish us and care for us, so we can rest in His loving care.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 28 and Romans 1-2.
