Seeking God

It is evident from the Bible that God seeks us. Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost, all people. The Holy Spirit draws every person who comes into the world to see God through His creation and through His punishment of sin. God comes after us to show His love. He is love, and He loves us first. There is no doubt of these things when we read God's Word in John 1, Romans 1, and I John.

However, we must seek God, as well.(Jeremiah 29:13) God has called on people to respond to His revelation of Himself by seeking a close relationship with Him. How do you feel when you want to say hello to someone or to be some-one's friend, and they don't respond? It is an insult. It hurts. I believe our silence and lack of seeking hurts the heart of God, after all He has done to seek after us.

How do you seek God? It is not hard, but it takes time and energy. Anyone can do it, but it is a matter of priorities. We must spend a sincere time each day meeting with Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, feeding on the Word and praying for God's direction. If we are not doing that, we are not seeking God with all our heart. We must remain in a spirit of prayer all day, as we listen for the Spirit to speak to us and as we ask for God's direction and wisdom. That is part of seeking God. We must seek Him in worship with other believers regularly. God speaks in times of worship in a special way, as we set our hearts to hear from Him and obey Him.

I urge each of us to stop seeking after the things that do not satisfy. Seek God with all of your heart. You will find Him, and you will be amazed by Him every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 31-33.
