Caring For Needy People

We are all needy people. None of us are able to live on our own without the Lord. Sure, we can exist and even have some enjoyment in life, but we miss the essence of life without the Life-Giver. However, there are some people who are more needy than others. God has a strong commitment to meet their needs.(Psalm 68:5,6) He wants us to have the same care and commitment. He blesses us in a very special way, when we allow Him to use us to minister to those who have needs. This includes the poor, the disabled, those in various types of bondage, and those who are physically infirm.

Consider the life of Christ on earth. How much of His time was spent healing and casting out demons. Twice He fed multitudes of people. He raised the dead and comforted those who had lost loved ones. All of these things show the heart of God for the needy people of this world. In fact, the Bible tells us that God especially looks out for the fatherless and the widows. He is a "father of the fatherless." God "sets the solitary in families." He "brings out those who are bound into prosperity." God is constantly working to bring grace to the needy. He does this on His own whether we help them or not. He wants us to join Him and share His heart as well as His active concern. When we join Him, people see Jesus in us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 71-74.
