The Cross of Christ

This morning I spoke to our elementary students about the cross. I may be very "old school", but I believe we need to make it clear how Jesus suffered and died for us. It is the Good News. Without His sacrifice we would be eternally lost in our sins.

I told the children that Easter is not about new clothes or bunnies and eggs. The Cross and the Resurrection are what Easter is about. There is nothing wrong with having fun at Easter, but if we miss the seriousness of Jesus' death, we miss the real glory of Easter. God's Only-Begotten Son died the most terrible death to pay for the sins of the world, once and for all.

His sacrifice does not automatically take away the sins of every person in the world, because God did not just want to forgive our sins and take us to Heaven. He wants a relationship with every person. For us to enter a close, love relationship with the Holy God, we have to have our sins taken away. However, to relate to Him, we have to turn from those sins and confess Him as Lord of our lives. That is what we must do before He forgives our sins and gives us eternal life.

Please, take the time to read this description of Christ's death at this link written by a physician: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1115727/posts Then, if you don't know Christ, pray a sincere prayer turning from your sin and trusting Him to forgive your sins and to be Lord of your life. If you do know Him, thank Him again for all He has done for you.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 4-7.
