The Direction of the Church

I have been reading a book by Ed Stetzer, Breaking the Missional Code. It is an excellent book about how the church can get back to what the Bible says for the church to be about. Let me give you an example.

What is the direction of most churches in the USA? I don't mean up or down. I mean what direction are the people interested in the most? For the most part churches in America are built around the "attractional model." In other words they are focused on coming to a church building and attracting others to come, too. If this works, it is fine, but most of the time it does not work. Most people won't come to a church to hear about Jesus.

That is why Jesus gave the church, that is, the members of the church, a different direction. He sent them out into the world. (John 20:19-21)The direction of the church should be to go out and engage people where they are, instead of always trying to just attract them to a building. If we would get the right direction, we might get more of the right results. That is what we should care about, because Jesus loves the whole world, and He died for everyone. I pray that we will all make the proper changes so we are going in the right direction. It will make a huge difference.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 6-9.
