Vengeance

When we are hurt very badly by another person, our flesh wants to take vengeance on that person. It is a natural reaction, but it is the wrong action to take. I believe this is even more true when someone we love is hurt badly by another person. It seems that we are hurt more by the pain of the loved one, because we can't really do anything ourselves to take the pain away. However, in both instances the Lord is the answer.

If we take vengeance into our own hands, we will sin, because we do not know all of the facts or motives involved. Therefore, we will take an action that is not appropriate for the hurt that has been inflicted. Since God knows everything, He will do the right thing, and since He is totally holy, He will do even more to bring justice than we could.

Also, when we suffer for a loved one's pain, we can be sure that God can comfort and heal. Even if we took vengeance, it would not bring healing to our family member. We can pray for God's grace to be applied, and where sin abounds, God's grace abounds even more. That is His promise.

That is why we need to refrain from vengeance, and we need to trust the Lord for His loving care more than ever.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 10-11 and Acts 4:1-22.
