Absolute or Obsolete

My memory verse for today was Acts 4:12. I am sure that most of us learned it at some point in our lives, but for those who missed it, this is what it says, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under Heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." That verse is so very true, and I know many people who would affirm the truth of that verse without reservation. However, some of those same people would not believe everything in the Bible. They would say that there are errors in other parts, and they might say that some of it is uncertain because of differing interpretations. Therein lies the problem.

Adrian Rogers, a wonderful godly pastor for many years, had a way of summing up things very well. He said, "The Bible is either absolute, or it is obsolete." His point was excellent. If the Bible is not absolutely true, then how can we tell what is true and what is not true? Is it up to each individual? If it is, there is no absolute truth, so we can do whatever we want to do. The Bible is just a nice book. That is the farthest thing from reality. The Bible is God's Word, and God inspired it and protected it's transmission to us over the years, so that we can trust everything it says to be truth without any mixture of error. It is clear in what it affirms, and it is our guide to all we do. Why would God do it any other way?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 12-13 and Acts 4:23-37.
