More Joy
There are some things that happen in life that cause us more joy than others. When we have a child who graduates from kindergarten, it cause us joy, but when the same child graduates from college we have more joy. When we get a date to go to the prom, we have joy, but when we get married, it gives us much more joy. The same type of situation exists in heaven. There is one thing that brings more joy in heaven than other things bring.
Jesus made this very clear. (Luke 15:7) He emphasized the fact that there was more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine just persons who need no repentance. Why is that the case? Of course the Lord has joy from seeing ninety nine just people who do not need to repent, because they are right with Him and doing His will. Why is there more joy over one sinner who repents? Let's think about this for a minute.
I believe that Bible teaches that God is not willing that any should perish, but all should come to repentance. (II Peter 3:9) I think that God is like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, who had such great joy to see his son return home in repentance that he killed the fatted calf and had a party for him. God's joy over one who repents fills heaven, the angels and everyone rejoice when this happens. He is eagerly waiting to see who will make that decision.
I believe there would not be this level of joy if God predestined those who would be saved and lost. I believe His greater joy comes from seeing a sinner decide to love the Lord and put His trust in Him for salvation. Yes, I know He has foreknowledge of those who will take this step. But, I still believe He is like the prodigal's father, and He is eagerly waiting on His son and ready to rejoice over his newfound faith. I may be wrong, but I believe that is the heart of God and the reason there is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.
