The Nearness of God

I have friends who are very near to me. I usually see some of them several times a week. They have assured me that if I need anything, they will come to help me in any way they can. That is such a blessing to me. However, those friends can't be with me 24/7. They have lives to live, jobs and families. That is how life works. That is why the nearness of God is so good to me.

The psalmist, Asaph, had the same testimony. (Psalm 73:28) He confessed that the nearness of God was good for him. He had made the Lord God his refuge, so that he would tell of all of His works. This is God's desire for all of us. He wants us to thrive because He is with us all of the time, ready to be our refuge.

God is able to be near to each of us because He is outside of time and space, and He can be with each of us 24/7. He wants to be near to all of us all of the time, because He is love and desires a close relationship with us. Therefore, He will be there for His children. He is ready to help us with anything. I have experienced this nearness in so many ways over the years.

However, we can depart from the Lord. He is not obligated to follow us around, if we step out of His will and go our own way. Yes, the Holy Spirit will still be inside of us, but He won't be in control if we are set on not listening to God. Therefore, we can lose the nearness of God, at times. I pray that will not happen to any of us. I pray that we would all realize how good the nearness of God is for us, so that we would walk closely to God all of the time. Then, as He works in our lives we would share His works with others.
