Our God is Greater

 We are continually trying to figure out which player is greater than another player in their sport. The same is true for actors and actresses. It is always a contest to see who is greater than the others. However, there is one area in which there is no contest. Our God is greater than all other gods. There is no comparison.

Solomon was commissioned by God with the task of building a Temple in Jerusalem, where God Himself would dwell. Solomon asked the king of Tyre for help in building the Temple. (II Chronicles 2:5) He told him that the house which he was about to build would be great, because the God of Israel was greater than all gods. That was true then, and it is still true today.

A god is anything that takes us away from our God. When we do that, we substitute something for God. Let's not allow ourselves to do that. Let's remember that our God is greater than all gods. We need to focus on God, not on lesser things that are not capable to helping us like God can.

I think our smart phone can become a god to us. Yes, we can do a lot on our phone, but it is nothing compared to what God can do for us. Google can answer questions, but God gives us the whole truth, which is much better. Video games are fun, but if they are a distraction from spending time with God, we are robbing ourselves. Next time we have a need, let's be sure and go to the Lord first, since our God is greater.
