The Righteousness of God
God has a lofty goal for the life of every believer. He not only takes away the guilt of our sins when we get saved, but He desires for others to see His righteousness in us. That way they will know that He has saved us, and they can be saved and have a totally new life, too. This can only happen by the power of God working through His great plan of salvation. Paul gave us a great verse that describes this so well. (II Corinthians 5:21) God made Jesus, the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. Each of us needs to soak in the full meaning of this verse and apply ourselves to seeing this happen in our lives. Then, we will experience real life.
Yes, Jesus was God who became man, so that He was the God/Man. In that unique state He lived on earth doing the will of His Father by being fully submitted to Him. He lived for about 33 years, and He never sinned, because of His submission to the Father and being empowered by the Spirit. Therefore, when the time came for Him to die in our place, He was without sin. He was tempted in every way we are tempted, but He did not sin. (Hebrews 4:15) So when Jesus was hanging on the Cross, the sinless Lamb of God, His Father took all of the sins of the world and placed them upon His Son, so He could be sin for us. God took out all of His wrath for sin on Jesus, and Jesus paid for our sins with His blood. Since sin was overcome, God could save us when we turned from our sins, trusting Jesus as Savior and Lord. Once He did that for us, He gave us Christ's righteousness to replace our old, worthless righteousness. Then, being in Christ, having a relationship with Him, we could become the righteousness of God by living and loving like Jesus. We have to listen to God and follow the Spirit to do this well., but it is possible. It is God's purpose and plan for each of us, as believers. I pray we will all see this, and do this, so the world will see Jesus in us and be saved.
