Are You Blessed?
We hear people say that they are blessed? What does that really mean? It could be that some of them are using the word to say they are doing well, but they really don't know what the word means. It is much more than just feeling well. The word blessed means "well off in God's eyes." It means that God sees us, and He is pleased with what He sees. When that is the case, God pours out His grace and peace upon our life, so we are doing well, and our life is very satisfying. So, the question for us today is, "What does it take to be well off in God's eyes?" Jesus told us, so we don't have to guess. (Luke 11:28) Jesus told us that those who are blessed are those who hear and keep the Word of God. See, what He means? It is not just hearing God's Word, but it is living it out every day. That is what Jesus loves to see.
I believe that we should spend time each day reading and/or hearing God's Word. Then, we should have a plan to build into our life whatever we read, if we are not already practicing it. Yes, I know that sounds pretty involved, and it is. It does take being intentional and using the self-control that comes from the Holy Spirit to order our life to do what we read in the Bible and what God says to us in prayer. This is what it takes to "live and love like Jesus." When God sees that we are being diligent to live out these things, He gives us extra grace to conform us to Christ's image. He changes un from the inside out, so we are not just acting like Jesus, we are becoming like Jesus. It is then that we are truly blessed. We are well off in God's eyes, because that is His purpose for us once we are saved. That is why I pray for each of us to hear and to keep God's Word. I want each of us to really be blessed by God, not just say that we are blessed.
