God Knows the Haughty
God is worthy of all praise, but He is not proud. God can do anything except the wrong thing. His glory fills the universe. He is great beyond our imagination. If we were even a fraction as great as God, we would be so arrogant. However, the Bible warns us to keep all of this in perspective. (Psalm 138:6) God is exalted, but He takes note of humble people. At the same time, the Lord knows a haughty person from a distance. This tells us so much about God. It also tells us so much about what we ought to be. Let's take a few minutes to consider the Lord and to check our own hearts.
God is Lord of All. Everyone will bow in awe of God when we come into His presence in heaven. Now, when we are privileged to have God appear to us, we quickly recognize His greatness. However, God bends down to have this encounter with us. He is a personal God. He is not aloof, even though He is exalted. God doesn't get into being above all. God gets into having relationships with people. That is why He takes note of the humble. God is humble, Himself. (Philippians 2:5-11) He knows He can have the best relationships with people who are humble and will submit to Him as Lord. Therefore, He is quick to approach the humble. However, the opposite is true, as well. God knows the haughty from a distance. He can spot arrogant, proud people from a mile away. He doesn't draw near to them because He "knows" their hearts. He knows that they are not in any condition to listen to Him and obey His voice. See what this tells us? We need to be humble, so God will take note of us, and we can walk with Him every step of the way.
