Kind and Ready to Forgive
God has many attributes because He is so vast in His power, love, and wisdom. I think that most people have a faulty view of God, because when they pray, and they do not get what they want. The problem in that case is not with God, but with their prayers. We should pray for God's will and not our own will to be done. Then, when He answers we know that is what is best for us. David knew this very well, and he wrote about it in one of his psalms. (Psalm 86:5) David knew that God was kind and ready to forgive. He knew God was abounding in faithful love to all who call on Him. That really says all anyone needs to know about God, if we stop to think about it.
God doesn't treat people harshly, unless their actions and words have provoked Him to righteous anger. God is love, so He treats all of us with kindness, being gentle and speaking words that build us up. Then, even when we have sinned, He is ready to forgive us. He is not looking for a reason to punish us. On the contrary, God is quick to forgive us if we will turn to Him in confession and repentance. It is up to us, since God s abounding in faithful love toward us, if we will call on Him in faith. In other words He always keeps His promises to us. He never fails to live up to His part of our covenant with Him. That is who God is, but it is also who we, as Christians, are supposed to be. I wonder how many of us are truly kind to everyone and ready to forgive others, while abounding in faithful love toward our family and friends, as well as, other people with whom we relate? If we are not showing these attributes of our Lord Jesus and our Father in heaven, we should stop to take an account of our lives and ask God to produce these things in us by His Spirit, so all will see Jesus in us.
