Leader, Shepherd, and Ruler
God gives gifts to us, so we can fulfill the roles He has for us in our lives. Each duty requires a different skill set and gifts. God knows what we will need, and He is quick to supply our needs. When it comes to being a head of a country, it takes a unique combination of gifts and abilities. Unfortunately, at times we see heads of state who are sorely lacking. David was God's choice to be the head of Israel. (II Samuel 5:2) He had called David and equipped him to be a leader, a shepherd, and a ruler. That is what is needed today, too.
A leader is a person who others look up to. The people see their courage and their ability to make good decisions about the future, so they want to follow them. Every country needs a leader like this. We also need a head of state who has a heart of compassion like a shepherd. A shepherd loves his sheep. He doesn't do his job for pay or out of duty. He genuinely wants what is best for his sheep. We need shepherds today, too, instead of politicians. Finally, the head of any country needs to be a ruler. Every country needs good laws that benefit the people to keep them free and prosperous. All of this takes a wise ruler. Let's all pray for God to send us such people to direct our country, our state, and our local government.
