God's Blessing Smile

In Asaph's time God's people were suffering at the hands of their enemies. It seemed that God had forsaken them, because they were the reproach of the peoples who lived around them. God was not blessing them because they had been unfaithful to the Lord, and they were not listening to Him. Asaph cried out to God to come back to them and to smile His "Blessing Smile" and that would be their salvation. (Psalm 80:19) I wonder how many of us need the God-of-Angel-Armies to smile His blessing smile on us and deliver us from our circumstances now? Let's think about how that can happen.

Once we know Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, He never departs from us, but at times, He leaves us on our own. I like how Henry Blackaby says it, "God is under no obligation to follow us around; we are to follow Him." When we do not follow Him, we get farther and farther away from Him and His will for our lives. However, when we return to Him, humbly repenting and confessing our sins, like the Prodigal Son in Jesus' parable, God comes running to us, like the Father in the parable. Can you imagine the smile of our Father at that moment? It is His blessing smile, and He is ready to kill the fattened calf, put a ring on our finger and celebrate our return. He is ready to be our salvation from the horrible things we experienced in our time away from Him.  Therefore, if you have been having trouble, stop and pray. Ask the Father to show you if you have departed from Him. If so, quickly repent. Put Him first in every area of your life, and watch Him smile His blessing smile. It is glorious, and it is just what we need to flourish in life.
