Promises for the Future
I know that we love to get promises from God that assure us of His blessing in our present situation. However, just think how amazing it is when God gives a promise that will come true in the future. That promise is something we can look forward to with even more anticipation. I know it is hard to wait to see the results of the promise, but we can be assured the results are coming, because God said it. God's promise to Abraham contained one part that pertained to future blessing. In fact, it was a promise that all of the nations of the world would be blessed through the offspring of Abraham and Isaac. (Genesis 22:18) That is a huge promise for the future!
In order to understand this promise, we have to remember that Abraham was the father of the Jewish people. All Jews are descendants of Abraham. Then, Jesus, God's Son, came into this world as a Jew. He was a member of the tribe of Judah, and He was a descendant of David, as well as, Abraham. Since Christ died for the sins of the whole world, He purchased salvation for all who would believe in Him of every nation or people group in the world. Then, in Revelation 7:9 we read that John saw a great multitude in heaven of those who were saved, and there were people from every nation. John was given the ability to see into the future and see that God will fulfill this promise He made to Abraham 4,000 years ago. All those people came to know Christ, because of the faith that was born in the heart of one man, Abraham. God saw his heart of faith and promised to bless him in great ways. Let's decide to have faith like Abraham and see what God does for us now and in the future.
