Meditating on God's Works
When was the last time you set aside a time to meditate on all God has done in your life? It is a very rewarding practice. It keeps us thankful, and it gives us hope for the future. The psalmist, Asaph, told us that he had adopted this discipline. (Psalm 77:11,12) I think we all should do it regularly and as often as possible.
The Bible is the account of the deeds of the Lord. The Gospels contain the story of what Jesus did while He was here on earth. When we read the Bible, we should not just focus on doctrines, as important as they are. We should stop to consider the deeds of the Lord and especially His wonders or miracles. All of these things show us that God is always working in our world, and He can do whatever He desires. Also, we must meditate on what He has done in our lives. Perhaps, we need to use a journal to keep a record of His works or to record what we can remember God doing in our lives. As Henry Blackaby says, some of them are "spiritual markers" that changed our lives or the direction of our lives. When we line up these events, it is much easier to see where God is using us now and where He could use us in the future. He is so gracious, kind, and merciful that we never want to forget, and we always want to be thankful for all of His deeds in our lives.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 78-80.
