The Wisdom of Solomon

It is amazing to me that today Solomon is known for his wisdom, even among people who do not know the Bible well. His wisdom was truly profound, and along with the wisdom he had very great discernment and breadth of mind, to the point that he gave 3,000 proverbs and wrote 1,005 songs. (I Kings 4:29-32) We need to think about how Solomon had such great wisdom, so we can learn how to have it ourselves.

Solomon was not born with wisdom. He did not even have it when he became the king. He received abundant wisdom and discernment from God, when he asked God for it, so he could rule the people well. God was so happy with his request that He gave him more wisdom than anyone before him or since then. That shows the heart of God toward anyone who asks for wisdom, knowing it all comes from Him. (James 1:5) When we humbly ask for wisdom to know God's will and to carry it out, He gives it to us in abundance. That is the only way anyone has true wisdom which is God's ability to see the truth in all of the facts and events of life. I pray that each of us who are believers will cry out to God and ask Him to fill us with His wisdom and discernment.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 5-8.
