Encouraging Friends
We need to be encouraging friends, and we need to have encouraging friends. Any of us can get discouraged at any time. Satan is smart, and he knows how to get us down when we are weak physically or struggling with challenges in our lives. It is always a great help to have a friend come along beside us and encourage us, especially when it is done in the Lord. That is just what Jonathan did for David as David was fleeing from King Saul and in fear of losing his life. (I Samuel 23:16) How encouraging are you to your friends?
Jonathan went out of his way to go to David personally in the wilderness of Ziph. Doesn't sound like a pleasure trip or an easy journey. He made that trek because of his love for his friend, and the location of the visit made it all the more encouraging. Once there, he admonished David not to be afraid, and he assured him that his father would not find him. He reminded David that he would be king one day, and he would still be loyal to his friend. They even renewed their covenant of friendship to show David that he had at least one lasting friend in times of trouble. What an encouragement! Think about what you could do this week to be an encouraging friend. It will be a blessing for your friend and for you.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 24-26.
