Who Catches God's Attention?
We might think that the Creator of the heavens and the earth would be impressed with powerful people or people who are very smart. That is not the case at all. In fact, it might be a surprise to a lot of people, but God notices the poor people with contrite spirits, who tremble at His Word.(Isaiah 66:2) That is amazing and significant.
I believe there are a lot of people who try to impress God in all kinds of ways. They think God will notice if they go to church or give money to a poor person. Others think that God will pay attention to them if they pray a long time or become a leader in the church. Some people even go on mission trips and do other service projects to try to get brownie points from the Lord. None of those things will attract any attention, if they are done with the wrong heart or spirit. God is looking for people who know know they are poor and can do nothing without Him. He is looking for contrite people who mourn over their sins and confess them without delay. God turns His head and takes notice when people read or hear His Word, and they tremble with sincere respect and awe for what God has said. Those are the people God looks upon, because He loves to see those things in people.
The question for us is this, "Will we be noticed by God for these things?" If not, we ought to amend our ways today. He is the one we really ought to want to please above everyone else in the world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 1-3.
