Pride Brings Destruction
We must guard against pride at all costs. Pride can never bring us closer to the Lord, and it always harms our relationship with Him to the point that He has to punish us severely for our pride. This truth goes for individuals, families, churches, governments, and peoples. Jeremiah shows us the example of Moab.(Jeremiah 48:42) When was the last time you read about them in the news? Well, we haven't seen anything about them, because they do not exist as a people any more, because of their pride.
Pride brought destruction to Lucifer before the earth was formed. Pride led one third of the angels to follow him to destruction, instead of serving God. Pride brought down Adam and Eve, when they lived in a perfect place and had a close relationship with God. I could go on and on. Pride is something that we must take seriously and eliminate it.
What do we have to be proud of? Without God we would not exist. He made us just as we are, so we owe who we are to Him. If we are able to grow and accomplish anything, it is by His grace and strength. We should be humbled by His goodness and wisdom, instead of being lifted up by pride in ourselves. Humility is the key. Yes, we can do things, but we do not deserve the credit, and we should not be puffed up. If we are, it will bring destruction. If we are humble, He will lift us up.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 49-52.
