Little by Little
Most people seem to want big things to happen quickly, especially when they need to have more money or overcome a problem. Have you noticed that God doesn't work that way very often? Yes, He does choose to work miracles and do big things at times, but that is not the normal way. Usually, God drives out our enemies little by little, and we possess what we need, as we increase our character and strength in Him.(Exodus 23:30) This might be frustrating to us, but it is the best way.
When God sent His angel before the Israelites, so that the angel could defeat the enemies in the land of Canaan, and allow the people to possess the land God had promised, he drove them out a little at a time, not all at once. It makes sense. The Israelites would not have been prepared to farm the land all at once. They would not have been ready to defend the land all at once. They would not have known how to govern the land all at once. After all, it had not been that long ago when they were slaves in Egypt. They were still learning about freedom and responsibility.
The same is true for us. If God gave us every blessing we need all at once, we would not be able to handle it. We would not appreciate it all. We would not have the character and humility to live up to that much responsibility. However, when He does it a little at a time as we grow in Him, we get stronger and stronger by trusting Him, and we grow to be able to handle all of it in His wisdom and power. That is why it is so important to spend that unhurried time with God each day, even when things are going well. Growth is essential, and it comes little by little.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 26-28.
