A New Name
We used to sing a gospel song called "A New Name Written Down in Glory." This song is based on Revelation 2:17 where the Lord tells us that every person who comes to know Him has a new name written on a white stone. They also have some of the hidden manna to eat. All of these things are symbols to drive home a wonderful reality. When we come to enter the covenant relationship with the Lord by grace through faith, we become a new person, hence, the new name. That is what happened to Abram and Sarai, when God gave them the names, Abraham and Sarah.(Genesis 17: 4,5)
Abram came to put his trust in God, and God saved him by His grace. That is the meaning of Genesis 15:6. It doesn't mean that Abram was perfect. It means he was forgiven of his sins and made right with God. He still messed up by having Ishmael with Sarai's maid, Hagar. However, his heart was changed. That is the essence of salvation. Then, we keep growing, because we keep trusting Him. In Abraham's life, it was 25 years before God sent Isaac as the fulfillment of His promise and the covenant He made with Abram. Abraham kept trusting, and God kept blessing.
I pray that we all have a new name written in glory, because we have the righteousness that comes from knowing the Lord Jesus, and we are new people in Him. It is a joy to know we are in God's family, and we have a close, personal relationship with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 18-20.
