5 Years of Bible Study and Growing Together
Since the beginning of 2007 a group of men in our church have been meeting for Bible study at 5 AM on Monday mornings. The founder of the study was Dr. Kevin Forrester, who is also Major Kevin Forrester of the US Army. Kevin is a chaplain in the Army. He is presently serving our country and the Lord in Afghanistan. He and his wife Myra came to NHBC with their two children in 2006. Myra served as our pianist until they were transferred to Alabama. The Lord led Kevin to start the study of the Gospel of John in January 2007. He had to travel quite a bit, so Monday morning was his only time, and we met at 5 AM so all of the working men could get in a one hour study before leaving for work. Kevin did a great job, and it was a wonderful in-depth study of God's Word.
I picked up the teaching, when the Forrester's left, and we finished John before moving on to Luke. Now, we have spent 5 years in detailed exploration of the meaning and applications of the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. It has been a great blessing for us all. However, it has also taken its toll on us physically, because of our busy schedules. Therefore, we are bringing this study to a close. This morning was our last time to meet at 5 AM on Monday. On Saturday, December 10, we will meet for breakfast and to finish up out study of Luke 24. We want this to be a reunion of all of the men who have been with us at any time over the last five years, plus any other men who want to join us. Then, in 2012 we will continue to meet on one Saturday a month, until the Lord leads us to a different format.
It is hard to get men together for fellowship and study on a regular basis. We are just not as relational as the ladies. This study has enabled us to form strong Christian friendships and accountability. We want to keep it going in different ways in the future. We can never have too much time of growing in the Lord and in our fellowship with other believers.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Galatians 1-3.
