What Does Your Banner Say?
This morning as I was reading in Psalms for my daily Bible reading to read through the Bible in a year, I came to Psalm 60:4. It jumped off of the page to speak to my heart. God is so good to do that when we need a clear message from Him. It is a verse with a word picture and an amazing message for all of us: "You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah."
So, do you have a banner? You do if you fear the Lord. What does your banner say? It is a message that the Lord has given you to display as you live life today. It should be as evident to those you meet, as it would be for you to carry a literal banner around with you. It is seen in what you say and in what you do. Your life and words are to shout to others the truth of God. Just like Jesus told us that we are the salt and the light, but this verse adds a new dimension.
Sometimes, we try to go about our lives, as Christians, in an inconspicuous way. We blend into the woodwork, so to speak. We let people encounter us without showing or speaking truth. That is not God's will. He gives us a banner to proclaim something of His character, His will, His gospel, so people who see us can't help but notice truth. I don't mean being obnoxious by any means. In fact, that would be against God's truth. We can communicate His truth in love, but we need to do it in a way that can't be overlooked that those around us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 62-64.
