The Spirit of Truth
Many people have a hard time understanding the Bible for a lot of reasons. It is a long book in one sense. It is really 66 books written over about 1,500 years of time. However, since God is the author, it all fits together perfectly in a supernatural unity. One problem is that people do not know the broad outline of the history of the Bible. The main problem is that people try to understand it in their own intellect, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to teach them.
The Holy Spirit is God. He is the One who supplies us with the Truth. In fact, the Bible tells us in John 16 that He convicts the "world," which is all people, of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He shows everyone the truth about sin, living rightly, and how God will judge all of us. Then, the same passage assures us that the Spirit will lead believers into all truth. That is why I say that understanding the Word of God comes from the Holy Spirit. He shows everyone enough truth, so they can trust Christ as Lord, and then, once a person knows Christ, He leads them into all of the truth.
Therefore, if you want to know what the Bible teaches, ask the Spirit to guide you. He will guide you to Jesus. Then, confess Christ as Lord of your life, and He will continue to lead you in the truth all of the rest of your life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Hebrews 10-12.
