Hitting the Bottom in Life
I get to talk with people who have experienced some very serious difficulties. They are asking God why these things have happened to them, and hopefully, they are listening to His answers. Often, they hit the bottom, and they see there is no where to go but up. That is one time that God is waiting to hear their prayers, and He promises to give His attention to their needs. (Psalm 102:17)
I don't think He gives them whatever they ask in each instance. However, I believe when He sees that they are destitute, He is willing and able to come to their aid. If a person is destitute, he or she has nothing of real value materially. They are dependent on someone else or they need a break, so they can provide for themselves. God can help them either way. He might send them a helper, or He might give them a job. The next move is up to the person.
I spoke to two people today with totally different attitudes. One was excited to have been granted a job. It is not a desireable job, but it is a job that pays money. It is an opportunity to apply himself and show his trustworthiness. He could not wait to get to work. The other person hasn't worked in a while, but he made it clear that he would not do certain jobs. He has not fully reached the bottom. He doesn't realize the need to cry out to God, and when God gives you a break, you take it no matter what. I am praying for both of them, but I know what God said, so I believe the willing worker is going to hear from God first.
I also want everyone to know that we do not have to hit the bottom before the Lord will regard our prayers. However, we have to have the same humility as one who has hit the bottom. We have to be willing to do what God says, not just what we want. After all, He knows best what we need. He knows what has to happen to us before we are fully usable in His hands. That was the attitude of Jesus when He went to the Cross. He was willing to take the worst job ever, because the Father asked Him to do it for us. Now, He asks for us to do the same thing for His kingdom.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 106-108.
