Growing Stronger and Stronger
God's will for us is that we grow stronger and stronger in Him. He knows we live in a cruel and evil world system that is against Him. Without strength, we will be defeated and broken. That is the last thing He wants for us.
The thing most people don't want to hear is that trials make us stronger. (James 1:2-4) When we meet a trial with faith in the Lord, and we conquer the challenge, our faith grows, and thus, we are stronger for the next trial. Have you ever heard the saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger?" That is really a Biblical concept. The Lord knows the strength we need, and He knows how much we can take. He never lets us be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. (I Corinthians 10:13) That doesn't mean that we will always overcome every trial, but it means that if we trust Him, we will overcome. Then, we will grow to meet the next challenge with that new found power from Him.
Many people only want pleasure and ease in life. If that were the case, we would be very weak. We do not grow much, if any, through the good times of life. However, we grow when things are hard, because it leads us to cry out to the Lord and ask Him for the grace to proceed. His grace is always sufficient. Therefore, we should acknowledge the trials, and even welcome them as God's spiritual exercises to grow us up in Him. With that attitude we can learn all He wants us to learn and grow as He wants us to grow.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 6-9.
