The Trinity
Our Monday Morning Men's Bible Study was very interesting this morning, as we studied the baptism of Jesus in Luke 3. There were several elements that we discussed, but we focused on the Trinity. It was a great pleasure to have Kevin Forester with us. He is an Army chaplain, who was the founder of the study, when he and his family were members of NHBC. Now, he is serving in Germany. I hope you will add Kevin and Myra to your prayer list.
The baptism of Jesus reveals the three persons of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. However, we must not be too quick to emphasize the three persons, because the Bible is clear that God is one. (Deuteronomy 4:4-6, John 17, John 10:30) We must acknowledge that God never changes. He has existed and will always exist in the same form as He does today. The main reason God explained Himself as Father, Son, and Spirit, is so that we can get a grasp of His nature. God is so great and infinite that it is hard for us to comprehend all that He is. However, He wants us to know Him, so he had to reveal Himself to us in a way that we as humans can understand. The Trinity shows us how the same God can do different things at the same time. He can be alive and die at the same time. He can love and be just at the same time. He can be on Earth and in Heaven at the same time as being everywhere present. None of that is too hard for God, but it is hard for us to understand.
I am so thankful that God loved us so much that He became a man, the God-Man, so He could redeem us to Himself by dying on a Cross and rising again. I am so thankful that His Spirit, who is God, is the one who empowers me and directs me to know Him, to know the Truth, Jesus, and to live for Him. Now, I know God does all of this, but I am thankful He thought of a way to make it known to me and all people. That is what He did because He loves us, and He wants to have a personal love relationship with us. He wants us to grow to know Him more and more and have fellowship with Him, even though He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. I pray that you know Him in that intimate way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 9-10 and Acts 7:1-21.
