God's Providence
This afternoon in our Good News Club we had a lesson on the providence of God. It was the final lesson on Esther, which is a very good story about how God works. He engineered the circumstances in Persia, so that Esther would become queen at the right time to save the Jewish people from destruction. He knew that she would be faithful and brave to do her part to approach the king and get the effects of his decree against the Jews reversed. In the end God's people were saved by God's providence.
The word providence means "to see in advance." Since God knows the future, He can always see everything that will happen in advance. Then, He decides what action to take to accomplish His will in every situation. God is never taken by surprise, and He never does the wrong thing. Sometimes, He works a miracle, and sometimes, He doesn't. Sometimes, He provides supernatural deliverance, and sometimes, the people have to fight like in Esther's day. Sometimes, He decides not to do anything. However, His choice is always based on His perfect foresight of all of the people and purposes involved. That is why we can trust God in every circumstance of life.
I would encourage each of us to think back through our lives and consider all of the examples of God's providence we can remember. There will be a lot of them. Then, take time to thank God for His providential care over your life. Where would we be without Him?
Tomorrow, I intend to read 32-34 and Mark 15:26-47.
