Confession of Sin
The devotional in Experiencing God Day by Day for today was on confession of sin from James 5:16-17. It is a very important truth for all of us as believers. We all need to realize the importance of confessing our sins to God and even to other Christians. It is easy to see why we need to confess our sins to God, so He can cleanse us and restore our relationship with Him. (I John 1:9) However, what is the purpose of confessing our sins to others? I think the first thing is that we need to confess to the ones we have hurt or the ones who are effected by our sin, so we can be reconciled to them. However, there is also the need to have other believers pray for us, so we will not repeat that sin. Then, there is the need to have accountability with other believers. All of these reasons for confession are important.
There is another reason, too. Sin that is hidden tends to grow. When it is brought into the light, we see it clearly, and it is easier to get rid of it. Jesus is the Light. He exposes our sins, and we can ask Him to cleanse us. When we try to hide our sins from Him and others, they just get worse and worse. We need to bring our sins to the light as much as possible.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 7-8 and Ephesians 2.
