Praying for Fellow Believers
One of the hardest things to do in life is to set aside enough time to pray. We are all busy, and we feel that there are so many important things to do, so prayer gets pushed into the background. Then, when we do pray, it is very tempting to spend time praising God, thanking God for His blessings, asking God for our needs, and perhaps, praying for missionaries and ministries. Those are all very important, but what are we leaving out that is vital, too? In John 17 Jesus made it clear that His priority was to pray for the disciples. In Hebrews we read that Jesus ever lives to make intercession for us. We must make praying for fellow believers a regular practice, no matter how much time it takes.
Does your prayer list include the names of all of the people in your Sunday School class and other small groups of which you are a part? Do you pray for all of the members of our church on a regular basis? I believe that we all should be praying for all of our church family, hopefully on a weekly basis. Wouldn't that be a huge spiritual power unleashed on our church? Just think about the response of God to hundreds of prayers for hundreds of people and the spiritual impact that would have. Could that be the reason we have people drift away and fall through the cracks? I think that is the main reason. If we are constantly praying for each individual, God will be answering those prayers, and He will be using us to minister to those people in a meaningful way. Let's all look at Jesus' example in John 17 and figure out a way and find the time to pray for our fellow believers. It will revolutionize our church fellowship.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 14-15 and Matthew 17.
