God is Fair - Ezekiel 18-19 and James 4
Many times we hear people say that life is not fair. I believe that is true. However, at the same time that life is being unfair, God is always fair. That fact more than makes up for the injustices of life on this earth. God is there to bless us for doing His will, and His blessings are so much more than we deserve. He is there to punish us for our sins, not for the sins of others. His punishment is always just, and it is often merciful. When we look at God, instead of looking at the unfairness of this world, our perspective on life will be much better. Israel learned this truth, and we need to learn it, too.
James gives us several applications of this truth. Most of our stress comes from inside of ourselves, and most of the things we lack, come from not asking God or not asking with the right motive. We can blame our trouble on other people or on God, but that is not the case. God is there for us all the time, but often, we fail to turn to Him for the needs we have in life and for the peace we need. God blesses the humble and resists the proud. He is very consistent in that, too. It might not be in our timing, but we see His fairness in that every day. God always comes to us when we draw near to Him, and Satan always has to flee, when we are close to God. There is no exception to that promise. That is very fair, isn't it? Any time Satan is bugging us, we have a sure remedy in the Lord. Even if other people speak badly of us, we know that God is the ultimate Judge, and what He says is the only thing that counts. Finally, we must know that life is short, and we do not know what will happen in the future, but God knows. Therefore, God is so fair, as we trust Him. He guides us. All we have to do is to do His will, which is the good things He shows us to do. If we will focus on that, He will guide us through life with His blessings. Most people miss it because they are focused on what they want, and they do not get it, because it is against God's will for them. Remember, God is fair, and His will for us is always better than what we would have planned for ourselves. Think about these truths, and have a great Thanksgiving!
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 20-21 and James 5.
