The Love of Christ and Faith - Song of Solomon 4-5 and Galatians 3

This beautiful passage in the Song of Solomon shows us the characteristics of genuine love between a husband and wife. Did you notice the description that Solomon gave of his lovely wife? Some of the images do not translate into our culture, but we get the point. Solomon thought she was very beautiful. The same is true of her description of him. Why did they have such a high view of each other? Was it totally their physical attractiveness? I don't think that was the reason they thought the other person was so wonderful. I think it was because of love. Love enables us to overlook imperfections and to focus an the good qualities. Once we love someone, it is far easier for us to trust them than it was before we came to love them. In other words, our faith in them flows out of our love for them. Again, I believe that is the type of love relationship the Lord wants each of us to have with our spouse. He wants us to love each other supremely and to trust each other completely.

Galatians 3 has a lot to say about salvation by faith in Christ and not by the Law. The one thing we might miss is the love of Christ. However, it said that Christ was willing to become a curse for us by hanging on the Cross for us. Why did He do that? Was He just doing what He was supposed to do? I don't think duty was His motivation. I think He went to the Cross for us, because He loved us. Did He not know that we were all sinners? Did He not see our imperfections? Yes, He knew those things, but His love for us caused Him to be able to see us as the beautiful creation of God. His love enabled Him to give Himself for us, even though He saw our weaknesses and our sins. Then, when we see His love for us, it should help us to love Him back and to put our trust in such a wonderful Savior and Lord. He should be the kind of person we would trust in a minute, because we see how much He loves us and what He has done for us. He has proved that He is trustworthy by going to the Cross. I pray that we will all see how love and faith work together.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8 and Galatians 4.
