Being Accused of Unrighteousness - Job 34-35 and Acts 15:1-21
I have always found it hard when other people accuse me of unrighteousness. This is especially true when the accusations come from believers. It hurts because we are trying to do the right thing, so when someone accuses us of doing wrong or being wrong, we take it seriously. Elihu accused Job of lying and being rebellious toward God. He was actually saying that Job had to be wicked or those things would not have happened to him, because God is just, and He can't do evil. His reasoning sounded good, but he was wrong. I am sure it hurt Job to think that others heard what he said and agreed with him. All Job could do was stand up for his own righteousness and try to explain himself. The good thing is that the truth comes out in the end. The problem is sometimes we have to wait a while before the truth comes out.
Paul and Barnabas were accused of teaching false doctrine. Some of the Jewish believers made the accusation. They had to convene a special conference in Jerusalem to solve the issue. I can imagine that it was not fun to be put on the spot in front of all of the apostles like that, but Paul and Barnabas made their case, and they were justified. Again, the truth won out, but not before there was the accusation of falsehood. I hope we all will stand up for truth, even when we are accused of unrighteousness by believers.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 36-37 and Acts 15:22-41.
