God's Word is Settled and Unchangeable - Numbers 21-24 and Mark 7
Once God has spoken, that settles it. There is no chance in changing what God has decreed. He is All-Powerful, and He always keeps His Word. We all need to learn this truth and revere His Word, instead of following the words of man.
As Israel wandered in the wilderness, they encountered enemies who would destroy them. Each time as they sought God, He gave them the victory. Once He spoke to them ,they knew they would win. The one time they complained, He sent snakes to punish them. However, when Moses prayed, God spoke. He told them to make a bronze serpent and look at it to be healed. What a picture of Jesus! They were saved by trusting God's Word and by looking upon the One who was lifted up for them. Then, there is the long story about the pagan prophet Balaam. Not even he could go against God's Word. God used a donkey to speak to him, and on four different occasions, he blessed Israel, instead of cursing them. Why? This happened because God's Word can't be broken or changed.
Jesus had a discussion with the Pharisees and Scribes in Mark 7. They were following the Traditions of men, and in the process they were breaking God's Word. Jesus set them straight. He made sure they knew that it was never right to break God's Word. There were no traditions that could change or modify God's Word. We need to examine our own lives, too. Are we trying to set aside God's Word to follow traditions? Are we doubting His Word? We must trust God's Word and follow it as His unchanging communication to us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 25-27 and Mark 8:1-21.
