The Great Commission - Leviticus 21-22 and Matthew 28

The Old Testament priests were commissioned to be holy in a special way. Everyone was to be holy, but the priests were to be examples of holiness for all of the Israelites to follow. This was very important, because God wanted the whole world to see the difference between Israel and all of the other countries. He wanted them to come to believe in Him by seeing how He blessed Israel for being His people. Unfortunately, Israel failed to be holy. The priests failed to lead them in holiness much of the time. Therefore, the nations of the world did not get the message of the Lord. This was not God's fault. It was the failure of His people to be holy and obedient.

Then, in Matthew 28 we read about the resurrection of Jesus and His Great Commission to His disciples. They were commissioned to be holy and to let everyone know about Jesus. Fortunately, they were obedient, and many people came to know Christ in a short time. However, not all of Christ's disciples have taken these words seriously. They have not been holy, and they have not told others about Christ. They have not been busy making more disciples as He commanded us to do. Therefore, the world has not heard about Jesus, so they can´t know Him as Savior and Lord. Again, this is not God's fault. It is our fault, so we must take His commands seriously. We must focus on making disciples.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 23-24 and Mark 1:1-22.
